CARDIGANS PAST

So Fred Rogers is gone from us, and yes, he was a gentle soul, and an accepter of feelings, but let me now praise something a little less..."misterogerian."

He wrote GREAT cliffhangers. I don't know if Mr. Rogers watched soaps or read Trollope, but he always knew how to leave you hanging---what was King Friday mad about? What was Lady Elaine about to say? on a Friday so you'd come back on a Monday. And for kids like me--too big to admit we watched, too attracted by the story line to look away--that's what hooked us.

SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION OF THE DAY

I have an essay in the latest BUST magazine , the one with the snazzy Frances McDormand cover. It's the age issue. I crabbily celebrate getting older. Honest.

OPRAH IS REVIVING HER BOOK CLUB

And I'm kind of excited about it. She's going to be doing classics. Which could be cool. I mean, I can hear Saturday Night Live doing the parody a mile away, but I don't mind.

IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME

But I have a new computer, now.

And I'm training for a triathlon.

Life is lovely.
